LINK: Cooking with the (Silent) Stars: Harry Houdini’s Deviled Eggs

I did a post a while back about Houdini's culinary contribution to The Stag Cookbook (1922). But here's a blogger who had the courage to actually try the recipe! How was it? Click on the headline and have a read at Movies Silently.

  1. The blogger was not impressed. She told Harry to stick to handcuffs. What went wrong? Mayo is the key ingredient in deviled eggs. They probably didn't have that product back then. The ingredients in HH's recipe approximate mayo but maybe not quite enough.

I also suspect Harry didn't make this himself. It was Bess who prepared this dish and Harry observed how she did it. He contributed the recipe based on what he saw her do. Who knows? He may have forgotten some other ingredient.

  2. I read this and suddenly pictured all those little devils that appeared in magic posters of Houdini's era eating little deviled eggs!
