They did not. In fact, they had NO Houdini books on the shelf and had never heard of this book. I don't know. A magic shop without at least one Houdini book on the shelf...feels like malpractice.John Coxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04391313393222271260noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4732721553418878547.post-29954225608636931442013-03-14T21:32:49.300-07:002013-03-14T21:32:49.300-07:00Another interesting thing about this book is that ...Another interesting thing about this book is that it first came out in the same year as the Tony Curtis film about Houdini.Timothy Arendshttp://www.timarends.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4732721553418878547.post-76689080792473479412013-03-14T21:30:33.645-07:002013-03-14T21:30:33.645-07:00A lot of the reviewers of this book on Amazon are ...A lot of the reviewers of this book on Amazon are complaining that most of this book was ghostwritten for Houdini, but I think that misses the point. Likely all of the subjects in the book were personally selected by Houdini himself and they probably closely reflected his thoughts and interests.Timothy Arendshttp://www.timarends.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4732721553418878547.post-12253702908567375142012-02-16T14:36:35.866-08:002012-02-16T14:36:35.866-08:00I have that book also and the great thing about it...I have that book also and the great thing about it is it's written by Houdini. The flavor of the wording is so "old world" and the stories he tells such as trying to visit an old magician, being constantly denied and then having the magician die the eve of their meeting...you can a most imagine Houdini telling the tale. One other book that I still think is the best is Houdini'Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4732721553418878547.post-67495158602482962582012-02-16T07:56:22.181-08:002012-02-16T07:56:22.181-08:00I'm guessing this was the first Houdini book f...I'm guessing this was the first Houdini book for quite a few of us. Be fun to hear everyone chime in. I also had the lower left green cover, purchased at the Topanga Plaza mall in 1975. Still have it and, yes, it is VERY well thumbed. :)John Coxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04391313393222271260noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4732721553418878547.post-49737086300464056372012-02-16T07:51:19.043-08:002012-02-16T07:51:19.043-08:00This was the first book on Houdini I ever owned (m...This was the first book on Houdini I ever owned (my aunt gave it to me as a birthday present). My edition has the bottom-left cover art. It is much worn and thumbed-through, but it's not quite falling apart yet. :)

I wonder how this book stayed in print so long?Beth S.noreply@blogger.com
