Boats would be weighed at the weighlock. Clearly visible in the film is S.B. Roby Iron and Steel, a hardware store on South Avenue just north of Weighlock Place. It is important to note that the canal is running alongside the river at this point. Just north of Court St. the canal makes a big turn to the left and is carried over Gabriel P.https://www.blogger.com/profile/02803574130633343719noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4732721553418878547.post-19881674438384173772021-03-25T09:27:24.560-07:002021-03-25T09:27:24.560-07:00Thank you Mike!Thank you Mike!John Coxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04391313393222271260noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4732721553418878547.post-91196020635378764502021-03-24T16:51:55.851-07:002021-03-24T16:51:55.851-07:00The bridge is (was) Weighlock Place. https://map...The bridge is (was) Weighlock Place. https://maps.cityofrochester.gov/historic/ shows the place on the 1910 Plat map. mikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01958113460192223325noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4732721553418878547.post-4000583135517596132020-08-25T09:17:43.965-07:002020-08-25T09:17:43.965-07:00Hi Jerome. The ad and paper states he jumped into a canal (probably the Erie). The bridges pictured above are over the Genesee River. However, the building behind him in the film seems to be the Cook Iron Store on Andrews St, where there is still a bridge over the Genesee. I'll go there soon Jerome Stillernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4732721553418878547.post-73050433118113855852018-08-20T07:10:58.897-07:002018-08-20T07:10:58.897-07:00According to a 1926 physical, he was 5' 5.276&...According to a 1926 physical, he was 5' 5.276". I remember first seeing that photo in a book in my school library at the age of 11 or 12. He was balding, a bit pudgy, and had a cherubic face. Not sure. He did an underwater escape in the swimming pool of the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles in 1923. Off hand, that's the latest one that I'm aware. Houdini looks so trim and fit and young in this - he actually reminds me of some of the young actors who have portrayed him on screen. The thought of him emerging from a practice jump half covered in mud is pretty grisly. No wonder he tried the jump before the actual stunt! Also love seeing him put the handcuffs on his head as Tom and Johanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01133250855806942658noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4732721553418878547.post-80919131900031242302018-08-19T13:39:20.833-07:002018-08-19T13:39:20.833-07:00What is that 1913 footage?
