The man from the Hippodrome

Here is the second exhibitor ad for The Master Mystery courtesy the Arthur Moses Collection. I really love the reference to the Hippodrome in this one. This was probably circulated while Houdini was playing his record setting 19 week engagement at the New York Hippodrome, the longest run in one theater of his career (Koval's Research Diary Part 5). It is odd that none of these ads include escape imagery. This one pitches a reliable Hollywood staple -- violence!

  1. It's gorgeous, isn't it? Part of this artwork appears in Christopher's Pictorial Life, but not in color, and it doesn't include the automanton.

    Wait until you see tomorrows. I've saved what I think is the best for last (although I think this is the order they originally appeared).
