High Schoolers win state finals with help from Houdini

Jonny Smith as Houdini and Olivia Skillern as Bess.

The Madison Record reports that the Bob Jones High School drama department won "Best Play" honors at the Alabama Conference of Theatre state finals with their original production, Houdini: The Last Illusion.

Four actors from the play were named to the "All-Star Cast": Jonny Smith (Harry Houdini), Olivia Skillern (Bess Houdini); Kayla Peel (Cecilia Weiss); and Marcus Mack (Paul). The production also won for "Best Technical Production" and "Best Costumes."

Matt Adams, a professional magician, advised on the show's illusions.

Bob Jones will now represent Alabama at the Southeastern Theatre Conference, the nations' largest drama competition, in March 2014.

Good luck to all!

Thanks to Bill Mullins for the news.
