Houdini: Scene #1.53

Here's another photo from HISTORY's upcoming Houdini miniseries starring Adrien Brody. This shot shows us Evan Jones as Houdini's real-life assistant, Jim Collins; gives us another look at Kristen Connolly's breathtaking Bess; and we get to see a nice period straitjacket. But there's a behind-the-scenes aspect to this photo that makes it something extra special...

This photo was taken on October 31, 2013, the 87th anniversary of Houdini's death and the 14th day of production. The cast and crew marked the occasion by holding a minute of silence before shooting this scene, which is set in the Dorchester Hotel in London in 1905 (although all of Houdini was filmed in Budapest). [UPDATE: In the finished film, this scene now takes place in Houdini's NY home.]

The idea of having a minute of silence in memory of Houdini was proposed by technical advisor David Merlini and embraced by director Uli Edel. Interestingly, Houdini's actual death scene was shot just a few days later.

Houdini is directed by Uli Edel from a script by Nicholas Meyer. It airs in two parts on September 1 & 2 at 9pm ET/PT and 8pm/C on HISTORY.

Check back here tomorrow for another new photo from Houdini.
