Houdini & Doyle premiere screening in London, Feb. 29

The new series Houdini & Doyle will have special premiere screening at the Everyman Cinema in London on Monday, February 29, 2016. Here are the details:

ITV presents the premiere of Houdini & Doyle, on Monday the 29th of February, exclusively at Everyman, followed by a satellite Q&A with the cast.

Stephen Mangan stars as Sherlock Holmes' author Arthur Conan Doyle in this new ten-part drama, alongside Michael Weston, who will play escape artist Harry Houdini. Houdini and Doyle will explore the friendship between Doyle - an ardent believer in the paranormal - and Houdini, who, as a professional magician, is sceptical about anything that appears to be supernatural.

The series is set within the rich history of the early 20th century, when the Metropolitan Police were overwhelmed by bizarre and often inexplicable cases. In uncertain times, New Scotland Yard turned to Doyle and Houdini for help.

This event will be followed by a satellite Q&A with actors Stephen Mangan and Adam Nagatis and producer Adrian Sturges.

  1. Different subject but I don't know where else to post.

I was looking over the daily physicians updates as to Houdinis condition in the days prior to his death. His vital signs were not way out of line until the day before his death but at that time he must have been in near death condition:

    HOUDINI SLIGHTLY BETTER
Magician is Helped by Second Operation—Condition Still Grave
Special to The New York Times.
DETROIT, Oct. 30–Harry Houdini was slightly better today as a result of yesterday’s operation. The magician’s physicians issued the following bulletin:
“Mr. Houdini has reacted to the second operation much better than we expected he would. His condition is very grave, but hope for his recovery has not been entirely abandoned. His temperature is 103, pulse 130 and respiration 140.”
The first operation, performed five days ago, was for appendicitis. Peritonitis developed and then paralysis of the bowels. The second operation, performed yesterday, was due to the latter complication.

Note the respiration and pulse numbers! I asked my wife who is an RN and she tells me Houdini must have been dying at this stage and unconscious.

The general impression I had was that Houdini was able to communicate and conscious up to close to his death. These numbers tell a different tale. Houdini was more than likely out of it and in the final stages of death the day prior to Holloween.

    1. Intersting info. Thanks. I'm especially interested in your wife's insights.

One place for this would have been THIS POST. Lots of discussion here about HH and his final illness.

  2. The wardrobe on the actors doesn't look right. The collars on the shirts look more 1930s. What's with the 5 o clock shadow? Doyle and HH were always clean shaven.

    1. Oh, that's not them in character. That's just a photo of the actors. Thought it worked for a post about a premiere event. I also try to always use new images, and I only have a few images from the show itself.
