The
Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas at Austin, which holds the largest public archive of Houdini material in the world, has added
Escaping Obscurity: The Travel Diary of Harry Houdini 1897-1899 to its collection. I like to think the Harry Ransom Center is pretty discerning about what it brings into its world-class collection, so this is an honor. Also, if you live in the Austin area and can't afford the book, here's a great way to still use it in your studies. Just click below.
Of course, you can purchase
Escaping Obscurity: The Travel Diary of Harry Houdini, 1897-1899 for your own library at
Mike Caveney's Magic Words.

Now look--if the Harry Ransom Center did not acquire a copy of Escaping Obscurity--that would be odd. The book is a faithful duplicate of the original diary owned by Dr. Averbook, plus more, so it was the duty of the HRC to obtain a copy for its Houdini collection. It's that cut and dried.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Eric also put in the good word. ;)
DeleteAbsolutely! His antennas are up for anything the HRC needs to acquire for the benefit of their collections. He's on the ball. That's why we love him. ;-)
