Where Houdini took his Water Torture Cell photos

We are all familiar with the famous photos of Houdini doing his Water Torture Cell. When and where these photos were taken has, to my knowledge, never been identified. But I think I may have finally found the answer.

I'm sharing this one on my Patreon as a History Exclusive. Click the image below to view it and 43 other similar discoveries. Lucky patrons!

  1. Nice catch! From the design of the cell, I suspected these photos were taken shortly after its debut, and maybe in Germany.

    1. I originally thought that too. But that stage looked very much like an English Music Hall. Turns out it is!

    2. Yes and that was your clue: The stage looked British to your eyes. To me it could have been in any European theater.

Something I just realized looking at this photo. As you know, over the years the cell kept evolving, changing a bit here and there. But the stocks look the same. I think the stocks were kept with different cells locking underneath it. The stocks we see in this photo may very well be the ones that burned at the HH Hall of Fame.
