This video doesn't have anything to do with Houdini, but it is worth watching as we enter an era of AI-generated Houdini content. I think it's good to know what to look for and know when you are in the hands of a human or a bot. The use of the em dash alone was eye-opening for me. Enjoy.
And, of course, AI continues to get Houdini facts wrong. You can read an example of this in today's Patreon post.
When I see long meandering paragraphs, I know it's AI. AI videos are all over YouTube. That monotone voice is unmistakable, along with mispronounced words and names. You can't hide from it unless you turn off your phone and computer. Who's going to do that?
ReplyDeleteLeo...most of those videos are done strictly for views for monetization of ad space. They are the dreck of AI as that is their sole purpose. So cheap software, cheap visuals result in that kind of meandering, hallucination etc...because the creator has only one goal...VIEWS....to obtain financial income.
DeleteHowever, mispronounced words are the Bain of all the television news hosts. I cringe every time I hear the lack of phonetics education in their pronunciation. NO wonder AI audio is so detectable....the programmers don't know to put in a language nuance ( British English vs American English as just one example...then there is Spanglish...don't get me started!) because they don't know how to pronounce ANYTHING correctly! And diction went out the door long ago.
Delete*stands in the confessional booth* I did an AI chat of Houdini and stopped after half a year of doing it because it was getting boring. I did some pretty… interesting stuff with it. Eheh.
ReplyDeleteAI is very creepy to me to be honest and as an artist I despise the “art” made by it. - Abby Martin
As soon as I sense something is written by AI, I stop reading instantly (or click off the video). I don't want that soulless, mechanical voice seeping into my own writing. I have to ingest a few paragraphs of Silverman, stat!
ReplyDeleteExactly! And it's not hard to spot. Long, dull, paragraphs that border on nonsense. The artwork is hit or miss. When it's good it's good, and when it's bad it's horrid.
DeleteAgree! It’s not worth it John! 😭 - Abby Martin
DeleteLet the Silverman Houdini biography heal all of our wounds! - Abby Martin
DeleteHowever, the use of a humanize polish eliminates long paragraphs, lets you develop personalities etc. It's all about prompting...and most are terrible at that. AI is like a 2 year old....it lies....because it has been built by programmers who MUST have an answer. And then, it learns upon itself which increases the hallucinations. AI is an ID personality...so you have wonderful things you can do with it ( I just recently created a complete app that allows for indexing all my research by urls, images, notes, pdfs etc) that make your workflow more efficient, but again, its about being a skilled prompter. You can even bribe AI to write better by saying" Take a deep breath and I'll tip you $200....." It DOES work! There are so many language models, again, that are more refined than others. Unfortunately, the general public does not have access to those models .
ReplyDelete"AI is like a 2 year old....it lies....because it has been built by programmers who MUST have an answer. And then, it learns upon itself which increases the hallucinations."
DeleteThis explains a lot.
In the more sophisticated AI models, you have the ability to "polish" by inserting commands such as "Use ', ' instead of dashes or hyphens" which eliminates the M dash....you can also elect to convert passive voice to active, split up long paragraphs, simplify complex sentences, reduce repetition, eliminate mid-article conclusions and mimic human speech patterns.....amongst many others...again, these are the more sophisticated programs. AI is merely a tool....and like any tool, the sharper it is, the better it cuts through the dreck of poor writing.
ReplyDeleteRegarding AI voices...again, more expensive programs allow you to clone your own voice (or others)speech pattern, Kadence, by teaching it through specialized reading aloud ( how do you think the CIA does it???) The monochromatic voices you hear are just a sign of poor, cheap programming. AI is developing so rapidly that programs become outdated within a year or less, requiring the constant update/purchase of newer, more developed software.
ReplyDeleteSo if you are picking up AI in writing or talking, its because of poor prompting and cheap programs. As you may have guessed, I belong to a development group with extensive access and some of the top programmers. These comments, however, are NOT AI written!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to stick with my own brain while it lasts. 😛
ReplyDeleteSame here dude. 🙃 - Abby Martin
DeleteThe goal of AI is really not to replace the mind or personality but to be a tool to increase productivity. It's just that so many have used it without a conscience thinking it could know all, see all, create all which it can't. And each model has different coding/prompting...some are great at coding, some are great at imagery, some are great at web searches 9 not GOOGLE!) and some are superior at investigation. So AI is like the horseless carriage....you have to learn how to use it to make it get you where you want to go. Otherwise, you will be left by the wayside like the blacksmith. It's all about adaptability, and education.
ReplyDeleteWell put.
DeleteI admit, I'm excited about using some AI tools for clearing up and sharpening Houdini photos.
THAT… is a good use of AI. I love that so much! Enhancing photos we couldn’t otherwise would be AMAZING! It is only when you let it take over your own learning and thinking is when it’s not good. I went to school before it really took off and it’s hard to adapt for me personally. Scary even. But if used properly it can do some pretty interesting things. It’s only when we let it do the thinking for us is where I draw the line. - Abby Martin
DeleteThere is a site alivemoment.com that animates any image....I sent John one of Houdini and his mother that was really interesting....I don't know how to post it but perhaps John will. It's kinda the "seance' world of today...you can see them move from a still image in a real, human way.
