Dixie was one of the only Houdini fans to enter the house in those days, and he came away with some amazing artifacts. Annual Houdini Seance in Las Vegas

Magician and escape artist Dixie Dooley will hold his 29th Annual Houdini Seance inside The Hall of Antiquities in Las Vegas on Halloween at 1 p.m. Dixie will have on display some original Houdini items and will also demonstrate tricks of fraudulent mediums. (If you've never heard the amazing story of how Dixie acquired his Houdini treasures from 278, check out his book Houdini-Question Reality.)

Among the attendees this year will be Charlotte Pendragon, who for many years performed one of the finest and fastest versions of Metamorphosis as part of The Pendragons.

The seance is free and open to the press and public. The Hall Of Antiquities is located in the Boulevard Mall, 3528 S Maryland Pkwy, Las Vegas, NV. For more information check out the official Facebook page.

Dixie Dooley writes Houdini fiction

Las Vegas magician and Houdini collector Dixie Dooley is dipping his wand into the world of Houdini fiction with a new book, From Death He Departs. The novella was released on April 3, 2013. Here's the description on Amazon:

In this exciting story, Houdini travels through time and finds a way back, only to realize he's come back in a whole different world from which he lived. 'Houdini Question Reality' released for Kindle

Dixie Dooley's self-published Houdini - Question Reality has been released for the Amazon Kindle.

First published in 2011 as a print-on-demand paperback from Lulu.com (where it is still available), this book is must for Dixie's story about visiting 278 in the 1980s and the hand-drawn picture he includes showing the layout of the entire house. This might be the only record of the original floor plan as it existed in Houdini's day.

The book also contains a lot of other eclectic and intriguing Houdini tales told by a true Houdini aficionado (and a bit of a character).

New Houdini book by Dixie Dooley

Dean Carnegie over at Magic Detective alerts us to a brand new Houdini book, Houdini - Question Reality, by Las Vegas magician and long-time Houdini buff, Dixie Dooley.

I don't have the book in hand yet, but it appears to be a collection of unusual and uncommon stories about Houdini, with some intriguing chapter titles, such as: "Blinded in his left Eye?", "Houdini's Son?", "Sue-Dini", "Curious story of Frieda Brown Sower", and "Hardeen the Gambler."

One item in my collection that I greatly enjoy is a tape recording of Dixie telling the extraordinary story of his visit to 278 in the 1980s. Dean reports that this tale is recounted in Houdini - Question Reality with sketches of the inside of the legendary Houdini house. For this alone I'd say this book is a must!
