Not a mystery. The clip we hear online is a condensed version of the two longer USD recordings. I believe the editing was done for the 1987 documentary, hence it is the only public version. Arthur Moses figured all this out and revealed it HERE.
I attended Arthur's lecture on the USD recorded speech back in 2012 at the Chicago MCW and forgot it! I do remember your 278 sign in book presentation. Reading Arthur's essay on his website cleared it up again for me. Arthur's probably correct that the producers of that 1993 documentary digitally cut and pasted the condensed version we're all familiar with.
