Introducing WILD ABOUT HARRY WEEKLY

Attention everyone who subscribes to my daily WILD ABOUT HARRY email updates. And those who don't! Google/Blogger announced this week that they will be discontinuing the subscribe by email feature in July. So I'm afraid those daily updates are going away.

I've actually never given this feature a whole lot of attention as it's pretty basic and I don't have much control. But I have a fair amount of subscribers, so I went in search of an alternative. What I've come up with is something I think will be pretty cool. I'm calling it WILD ABOUT HARRY WEEKLY.

This will be a weekly (not daily) email designed as a proper newsletter. Each "issue" will be sent on Sunday and will contain links to all the posts from the previous week. I may also send the occasional EXTRA if some breaking news hits. I think this will be a great way to keep up with the blog without having to check-in every day. You can view a preview here.

You can subscribe with your preferred email address below. An email will then be sent to that address and you will need to CONFIRM. Your email will be kept confidential and will never be shared. And if you change your mind, it's easy to unsubscribe.

.

If you currently subscribe to my daily updates you will need to resubscribe to the get the WEEKLY. My plan is to turn off the daily updates and launch issue #1 next Sunday, April 25. But for those of you who subscribe today, you will received a special PREVIEW issue tomorrow so you can check it out early.

I hope you enjoy this new WILD ABOUT HARRY feature. Thanks as always for your support!

-John

  1. Checking in everyday is part of the fun. The compass always points North...

    1. Haha, yes, for some...we need it everyday! But I've whipped up a nice little weekly packet of heroin for those who just want to sample. ;p

  2. Excited to see quite a few subscribers already! Be sure and confirm the confirmation email. If you can't find it, check your spam folders. I see a few folk who have yet to confirm.

  4. Google's going gaga. Must be a royal pain to you and so many other bloggers. Thank you for responding with your usual resilience, and at least I will now have a good reason to look forward to Sundays!

    1. It's more spooky. Google seems to pretty much ignore Blogger. So whenever they make a change everyone wonders if this means they are looking to support it or kill it. Maybe one day I'll need to move the whole blog elsewhere. But I'm sticking with Blogger for now.

Preview newsletter set to send at 9:15 PDT. Let me know what you all think!

  5. Received it and it looks great! I like this format, and it's so clean and simple (so many newsletters are just the opposite - cluttered and dense and overwhelming to read). Over the past year, I've been so busy with work that it's often been hard to really take time and enjoy the daily posts as I receive them, so while I'll miss seeing the dailies, this may enable me to really relax and enjoy the posts the way I was able to in the past. And, as always, thanks for everything you do! (P.S. When I saw "WILD ABOUT HARRY WEEKLY" on the masthead, I thought, "I wonder if some people will see this phrase pop up in search, and ask themselves, 'Who is Harry Weekly?'"!!)

    1. Perfect! That's a great way to use this. And I figured Sunday was the best day for it. It's likely I'll forgo posting on Sunday's now. Or at least I'll try. :)

"Harry Weekly". Ha! It's a good stage name, actually.

  8. Thanks all. Off to a great start with 105 subscribers thus far. 75 of you should have received the preview issue yesterday.

I'm using Mailer Lite which I believe is free up to 1000 subscribes. I don't think I'm in any danger of topping that (I had 900 on the daily), but I will keep an eye on my list and if I see someone who has never opened an email I will likely delete them to keep the number low. And if you're really not interested, please do unsubscribe instead of just deleting as they come in. Thanks again!

  9. I'm having a blast working up Issue #1 and think people are really going to like it. As I said, my daily updates will be turned off on Sunday. But if you really miss having a Daily update, it is possible for me to recreate them in this new format with less frills. So you can subscribe to a Daily or Weekly or both! Let me know your thoughts.
