Houdini the spoiler

I've read a lot of newspaper reports of Houdini's escapes, but I've never read anything quite like the one below. This is an account of a challenge packing case escape at the Majestic Theater in San Antonio, Texas, on November 14, 1923. Enjoy.

Victoria Advocate, Nov. 16, 1923.

  1. How dare he get out so fast! lol. Or how dare he get out at all. He has ruined a good story, LOL. Some reporters just dont get it I guess.

    1. I pretty sure this was written entirely tongue in cheek. It's a pretty funny way to cover Houdini at this point. He always escapes! I could see this reporter knocking this out with a smile, figuring no one would read or remember it. 98 years later...

  2. I suspect that by 1923 Harry realized audiences were not going to sit for an hour waiting for him to escape. Those days were over.

  3. That is absolutely hilarious! I'm sure Houdini got a chuckle out of that...if he read it?
