Photos from The Life and Afterlife of Harry Houdini launch event

Here are a few photos from Monday's The Life and Afterlife of Harry Houdini launch event at The Last Bookstore in Los Angeles (the heart of Houdini's downtown). On hand were author Joe Posnanski and actor comedian Nick Offerman sporting a most excellent David Copperfield t-shirt.

Across the street the lights were ablaze inside the Alexandria Hotel ballroom where Harry and Bess celebrated their silver wedding anniversary in 1919. Houdini was alive this night!

TONIGHT I will be interviewing Joe Posnanski and a very special magic guest star at Vroman's Bookstore in Pasadena. The event starts at 7:00 PM and is free. Hope to see you there.

The Life and Afterlife of Harry Houdini can be purchased at Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk. [Amazon links earn a commission and support Wild About Harry.]

  1. My first impression after purchasing a copy was to notice it's not a big book. A quick read of magic and Houdini from a layman's perspective. I was hoping for tidbits and stories from the magic historians that Posnanski interviewed. The Houdini story that Mike Caveney shared was worth the price of admission.

The chapters on the Mirror Cuff Challenge were interesting. Posnanski summarizes the three leading theories on Houdni's method. He quotes Randi as saying the method is unknown, but Randi did tell Silverman that HH used nothing but the key.
