The Great Houdinis on KMBC

Here's an ad for the TV biopic The Great Houdinis on KMBC-TV in Kansas City. I'm not sure of the date of this ad, but considering the title is still plural, it could be for the original October 1976 airing. The movie became The Great Houdini after its initial showing.

While one can find various TV Guide ads for the Tony Curtis movie, ads for The Great Houdinis are less common. This one I've never seen before, so I thought it was worth the share.

  1. I have an unrelated question.........who owns, or does anyone own, the legal rights to the Houdini name?

    1. I don't believe anyone owns the Houdini name. There is family on both Bess and his brother's side, but no official Houdini estate.

    1. I have decided to ask George Hardeen about some things. I know in more modern times, an estate is created after someone's death. What perimeters if any are applicable. Bela Lugosi Jr the Attorney successfully sued Universal and laws of likeness and rights got changed. I've also read that the family considers Houdini to be public domain which might help keep his image and poster art in the public eye. I know one family that inherited their father's rights and made it all about the money, since their dad's fan base is dying off, so is their cultural impact. The business they run does not do their father's proud.
