"Dean of American Magicians", Harry Kellar was the prominent, world traveling magician of the late 19th and early 20th century. At the time of Kellar’s retirement in 1908, Houdini was making a name for himself and looked up to Kellar for inspiration as the elder magician. The two became great friends, Houdini was even able to convince Kellar to come out of retirement for one final performance at the Hippodrome Theatre in New York. Kellar and Houdini would write to each other often.
