The Aviator

Here's another beautiful original photo from our mysterious benefactor, MSW (who last helped us bust Bess). This pic shows Houdini in Australia behind the wheel of his Voison Biplane, possibly on the day of his historic first flight.

From the collection of MSW. Click to enlage.

A beauty! Thank you MSW.

  1. Good pic - looks like a racetrack in the background though. I was wondering if this might be Rosehill (in Sydney)? It's also the mountains that make me wonder ... Melbourne and surrounds are just so flat.

  2. You may be right, Melbo. The caption on the original photo says this is Diggers Rest, but it could very well be Rosehill. Seems like almost every pic of Houdini and his plane is credited as being taken on March 10.

  3. Maybe that photo was taken in England, France or Germany.

  4. Ah, yes. Good point. It could just as well be one of those countries.

  5. Interesting page here on Houdini's flights with some speculation about the "cloth cap" pics. Thanks to Melbo for this.
