Bronx Zoo cobra may get Houdini themed moniker

The New York Daily News is asking readers to help come up with a name for the Bronx Zoo's escape artist cobra - and the Houdini theme is popular. The paper reports that "some admiring readers think the 20-inch adolescent serpent should be named Bronxdini or Zoodini, in a nod to the world-famous magician."

Animal workers still don't know how the snake escaped from her enclosure on March 25. The cobra developed a large fan following on Twitter before it was recaptured after six days "on the lam inside the Reptile House."

The Daily News and the Wildlife Conservation Society, which runs the Bronx Zoo, are gathering name recommendations until 1 p.m. Monday. The zoo will pick five finalists and then readers can pick their favorite before the official name is announced Thursday. To leave a suggestion, go to NYDailyNews.com/cobra.

Hey, what's wrong with just naming it "Houdini"?

UPDATE: NPR reports that the cobra now has a name: Mia (short for "missing in action"). Nice.
